Iker Redona

An undersized left-hander with advanced command and a rapidly growing track record of missing bats, Iker Redona has emerged as one of the more surprising pitching prospects in the Cincinnati Reds’ lower levels. The Mexico native signed with Cincinnati as an international free agent in May 2025 and immediately impressed as a 17-year-old in the Dominican Summer League, allowing just one run over his first 16.1 innings while earning an All-Star selection. Redona carried that success into 2026 with the Arizona Complex League Reds, where he posted a 2.68 ERA with 64 strikeouts against only seven walks over 47 innings before earning a late-season promotion to Single-A Daytona. His combination of youth, performance, and unusually advanced control has pushed him firmly onto the organizational prospect radar. Redona’s ability to throw strikes and generate swings and misses stands out despite a fastball that lacks premium velocity. The 5-foot-11 left-hander generally works around 90 mph, but he has consistently shown an ability to locate his pitches and keep hitters uncomfortable. His 2026 season included an 11-strikeout performance over four innings, and he finished his ACL regular season averaging more than 12 strikeouts per nine innings while issuing just 1.3 walks per nine. Redona also showed an ability to keep the ball on the ground during his debut season, giving him multiple avenues for generating outs beyond simply overpowering hitters. For a pitcher who spent the entire complex-league season at just 18 years old, that combination of strike throwing and bat-missing ability is particularly encouraging. The primary concern with Redona is whether his stuff will remain effective as he climbs against more advanced hitters. His fastball velocity leaves little margin for mistakes and places greater importance on command, movement, sequencing, and the continued development of his secondary pitches. His promotion to Daytona provides an important test after he dominated a hitter-friendly Arizona Complex League, where the league ERA sat above 6.00 while Redona finished below 3.00. There is still considerable developmental risk given his age and lack of physical projection, but his performance has been difficult to ignore. If Redona can add even modest velocity while maintaining his command and ability to miss bats, he could develop into a legitimate starting pitching prospect; even without a major velocity jump, his feel for pitching gives him a chance to continue outperforming the expectations typically attached to his raw stuff.
