With college baseball starting up this past weekend, its about that time when fans begin to scout out who will be MLB's next big star. Every year, players breakout, others fall, and some stabilize their projections as prospect. Lets take an early look at three guys who might end up in Cincinnati this July.

Nick Kurtz

Nick Kurtz has one of the best offensive profiles in recent college history. Kurtz slashed .353/.527/.784 as a lefty last year at Wake Forest, and looks primed to repeat again this year. He plays first base, which isn't typically a premium position in drafts, but his ability to hit and elite power makes this more than okay. With how polished he is in the box, Kurtz may reach the big leagues a couple of years into professional ball -- something the Reds may be looking for as their window begins to open. If Kurtz sustains his production, expect him to be taken within the first three picks this summer.

JJ Wetherholt

JJ Wetherholt has a very strong argument for being the best pure hitter in college baseball. Wetherholt slashed .449/.517/.782 at West Virginia last season and spent most of his time at second base. Also a lefty in the box, JJ stole 36 bases last season, showing plus speed to pair with his knack for hitting. But perhaps Wetherholt's most incredible stat is how little he strikes out. JJ was called out on strikes just 22 times in 268 plate appearances, where he also walked 26 times. Kurtz currently is at top of many draft boards and he should stay there if this season is anything like the rest of his collegiate history.

Chase Burns

The most tantalizing draft prospect on boards right now is Chase Burns. Last year he posted a 4.25 ERA across 72 innings with 114 strikeouts and 22 walks. Chase posses elite arm talent, with a very good slider, and is currently working on developing a changeup to add to his arsenal. Burns was at Tennessee last year, but has transferred to Wake Forest's pitching lab in hopes to refine his talents. If he's able to hone in his command even a little bit, expect him to be the first arm off the board this year. With the Reds taking Rhett out of Wake Forest last year, expect them to take a long look at Chase this summer.
